Teaching idea
Children are asked to calculate how many steps they
will have to take to arrive on the stone with the diamond.
This activity effectively supports work on number work up to 20 and
negative numbers. It can be used as a class or as reinforcement activity.
The 'easy' option just uses positive numbers, the 'difficult' option
uses positive and negative numbers and the 'expert' option changes the
number line to include negative numbers.
Learning outcome
Children will be able find
the difference between a positive and a negative number on a number line.
