This activity would be very effective in supporting classroom work on the areas of triangles and squares and as an introduction to developing this work to look at compound shapes. This activity asks the children to calculate the area and perimeter of a variety of shapes made from the same triangle and rectangle.
For the introductory, 'easy', session the children could have a collection of 3x4x5 right-angled triangles and 4x3 rectangles that will allow them to build the shapes they see on the screen.
