Networking Tips

The details of the installation process will vary from system to system. You are advised to contact your network administrator or IT coordinator to assist in the installation. The following are broad outlines that are generic to most network platforms.

Installation on the server

It is recommended that, to maximise the performance of the product to large numbers of concurrent workstations, it is necessary to copy or image the contents of the CD to an area of hard disk on your network server. To distribute the CD to small numbers of concurrent workstations a CD Stack or Tower will most likely give acceptable performance.

If imaging onto a server, it is best to assign a drive letter to the area that the discs are going to be copied to e.g. S: and then have sub directories on S: for each product. That way you could use a single drive letter for multiple CD titles, as long as the workstation always connected to that drive at logon (you may choose to do this via a login script or select the reconnect at logon check box within windows).

Installation on Workstations using Windows 95, 98 or NT

Once the CD has been imaged (copied) to the server, or placed in the CD Tower, the product must be installed from that location to run on the individual workstations. This stage must be repeated on each of the workstations where you wish to use the product.

(a)

Double click on 'Network Neighborhood from the desktop to open a window. Or, if you have mapped a drive letter already to the images on your file server use my computer to connect to that area e.g. S: is in the example above

Some products such as the Wellington Square Series require the folder on the server to be mapped as a drive letter on each workstation. You must then access and run the setup routine via the mapped drive letter, not via Network Neighborhood.

Running the Software

Once the contents of the CD have been Imaged (copied) to the network server and the software has been installed on each relevant workstation, the program is ready to run.

The first time you run some programs you may be prompted to locate the data for that product, 'which is now located on your network server'. Browse the server and navigate to the path where the data from the CD is stored and click on OK, You should only need to do this once as the program will remember the path.

Please note : Some products log user details and require full read write access to both files on the server and the workstation, If you are experiencing difficulties with products please check these access privileges

Certain products will not automatically create a shortcut on the Desktop. To do this manually go to the folder where the program is saved (normally C:/Program Files....).

Right Click on the program icon and select Create Shortcut. The shortcut will be created in the folder.

To move the icon to the desktop simply click and drag on to the desktop.
