Networking All About Weather and Seasons
The details of the installation process vary
from system to system. You are advised to contact your network
manager or IT coordinator to assist in the installation. The
following are broad outlines generic to most network platforms.
Installation on the Server
It is recommended that, to maximise the performance
of this CD-ROM to large numbers of concurrent workstations, it
is necessary to copy or image the contents of the CD-ROM to an
area of the hard disk of your network server. To distribute the
CD-ROM to small numbers of concurrent users a CD Stack or tower
will most likely give acceptable performance.
If imaging onto a server, it is best to assign
a drive letter to the area that the discs are going to be copied
to e.g. S: and then have sub directories on S: for each product.
That way you could use a single drive letter for multiple CD
titles, as long as the workstation always connected to that drive
at logon (you may choose to do this via a login script or select
the reconnect at logon check box within windows).
Installation on Workstations
using Windows 95, 98 or NT Once the CD-ROM has
been copied to the server, or the CD-ROM placed in the CD tower,
the software must be installed from that location to run on the
individual workstations. This stage must be repeated on each
of the workstations that you wish to use the software.
| (a) |
Double click on 'Network Neighborhood
from the desktop to open a window. Or, if you have
mapped a drive letter already to the images on your
file server use my computer to connect to that area
e.g. S: is in the example above |
|
| (b) |
Navigate to the Folder on the Server
which contains the data from the CD. |
|

|
| (c) |
Double click on setup.exe to install
the software to that workstation. |
|
| (d) |
Within the folder there will be a start.rsc
file, move this file to the root of the drive which
contains the data. |
|

|
| (e) |
Edit the Target path of the shortcut
so that it points to the WAS95.exe which located within
the Weather folder on the server. (WAS31.exe if Windows
3.x)The start in path must also be modified to point
to the same Weather folder on the server. |
|

|
Please note: Depending on the operating system
you may encounter the following error: "Failed to execute setup",
whilst trying to install from the server. If this message appears
run Setup32 from the image (Setup16 if you are using Windows
3.x).

Running the Software
Once the contents of the CD-ROM have been copied
to the server, the software has been installed to the individual
workstation and the shortcut paths modified, the program is ready
to run.
